To the left of this small side street is the Al-Fanar Hotel, where Kathy Kelly, Cynthia Banas, Ed Kinane, and other Voices in the Wilderness members stayed as “shock and awe” bombs fell all around them. To the right, behind the concrete and razor wire barrier, is the Palestine Hotel. Pools of diesel fuel and crankcase oil from large and small power generators can be seen in the street, once busy with cars and pedestrians.
